Seeking contestants for 2010 Allamakee County Fair Queen competition

The Allamakee County Fair Board is seeking applicants for the 2010 Allamakee County Fair Queen contest, with this year's fair running July 7-11.
The contest will run similarly to that of the Iowa State Fair Queen Contest. Each girl will dress appropriately and be involved at various events sponsored by the Fair Board.

VMH hosts visiting physicians from Romania and Moldova; April was positive financial month

The month of April ended on a positive financial note for Veterans Memorial Hospital (VMH), with a net income of $49,825. While acute patient days were down from April of last year, as well as last year-to-date, skilled days were up, as were deliveries, surgeries, outpatient lab, outpatient MRI and outpatient physical therapy.

Haley Johnson taking part in mission trip to Africa

Haley Johnson, an eighth grader at Waukon Junior High and the 13-year-old daughter of Jason and Heather Johnson of Waukon, has been accepted by Global Expeditions to travel to Zambia, Africa as a missionary this summer. Global expeditions is a branch of Teen Mania Ministries based in Garden Valley, TX.

Waukon Clean-Up Day successful

More than three dozen volunteers showed up and pitched in at the Saturday, May 15 Waukon Clean-Up Day organized by Dr. Steve and Stefanie Perkins. The event had been originally scheduled for Saturday, May 8, but cold, wet weather forced postponement of the event until this past Saturday, which featured much better weather.

Allamakee County Fair Board conducting its 2010 sponsorship drive

The Allamakee County Fair Board is conducting its annual sponsorship drive for the 2010 Allamakee County Fair. Letters explaining the different sponsorship packages have been sent out to community businesses and organizations, and a June 4 deadline has been set to wrap up the sponsorship effort.
