Hypnotist to perform at WHS Post-Prom

Waukon High School Prom 2010 is scheduled for Saturday, April 24. This year's post-prom will be held at the former Waukon Junior High School gymnasium from midnight to 4 a.m. following prom activities at Waukon High School.

Waukon is "Branching Out" with new trees through Alliant Energy and Trees Forever

Volunteers and community leaders in Waukon are planting trees to provide more shade and save energy. The local effort is part of the statewide Trees Forever and Alliant Energy Branching Out community tree-planting program.
“We’re looking forward to working with Trees Forever and Alliant Energy to plant more trees this year,” says Ken Olson of the Waukon Trees Forever chapter. “With their help, we are literally growing a better environment while making Waukon healthier, more vibrant and more energy efficient.”

Order deadline is April 15 for memorial bricks to be placed by Memorial Day

With Memorial Day approaching, the Allamakee County Veterans Memorial Committee would like to remind those interested that orders for individual memorial bricks are still being taken. To date, over 1,200 individual bricks have been placed on the memorial site on the courthouse lawn.

National Park Week at Effigy Mounds National Monument

Saturday, April 17 will kick off National Park Week, the annual week-long celebration and recognition of America’s National Parks, at Effigy Mounds National Monument.  Admission to the park is free April 17-25. Special movies, hikes, volunteer opportunities, and activities will be held throughout the week and will culminate with National Junior Ranger Day Saturday, April 24.

Northeast Iowa 4-H Camps' registration deadline is April 27

Youth looking for a fun summer camp to attend need look no further than Pinebluff 4-H Camp along the Upper Iowa River, rural Decorah, during June. Registrations are now being accepted for the Junior and Intermediate 4-H Camp, which are open to all youth just completing grades fourth through eighth. Campers who register before April 27 receive a 16 percent discount.

Waukon High School Project Prom is community event

The annual post-prom event has been offered for almost 30 years. Started by a group of parents who wanted to provide a safe and substance-free event for prom-goers following the dance, Waukon was one of the first communities in northeast Iowa to hold such an event.
Post-prom began as a casino night, adding carnival games to accommodate the number and interests of students. In recent years, a hypnotist has performed following the games and other activities.

Benefit event this Sunday for Jim Reckward at Glenwood

A Benefit Dinner and Silent Auction fundraiser will be held for Jim Reckward of rural Decorah this Sunday, April 11 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Glenwood Lutheran Church, 1197 Old Stage Road, rural Decorah. The event will feature a Pork Loin Dinner with all the fixings, along with a silent auction and door prizes.
