Resources Unlimited

Most people are probably unaware that my first area as a Conservation Officer were the Sioux and O’Brien counties. I worked there for about a year before transferring out. The view over in far northwestern Iowa is quite a bit different than the northeast. You can stand on an eastern edge of a county and see the western edge. The land is very flat. There is also very little for trees. My old supervisor used to say that the woodpeckers had to carry their lunch.

Iowa SAFE KIDS Coalition and Blank Children’s Hospital offer sports safety tips

Every year, more than 3.5 million children ages 14 and younger suffer sports injuries serious enough to require medical treatment. Nearly half these injuries result from solo activities such as cycling, skating, and skateboarding; however, roughly one out of four participants in youth soccer, football, or baseball has been injured at least once, along with about 15 percent of kids playing basketball and 12 percent of kids playing softball.
