Plans are being made for the ninth annual Lighted Holiday Parade in downtown Waukon, scheduled for Monday, November 23, beginning at 6 p.m. The event coincides with extended Monday night business hours of Waukon retailers.
The theme for this year’s parade, “Ringing in the Holidays,” complements the traditional Christmas Fantasy hosted by Veterans Memorial Health Care Foundation just this past weekend in Waukon, and will be featured throughout the parade. All entries must be lighted and cannot involve a live version of Santa Claus.
The parade will begin at the East Elementary School playground and travel Fifth Street NW to West Main Street. Turning left onto West Main, the parade entries will venture to the stoplight intersection, where they will then turn south on to Spring Avenue for one block before turning right on to First Avenue SW and heading up to Sixth Street SW. The entries will then turn right and head north back to the East Elementary playground.

Side Street Cycles in Waukon has achieved the distinction of creating a motorcycle that was recently honored by Hot Bike Magazine with an Editor’s Choice award for the “Top Bagger” in the Hot Bike Power Tour. A “bagger” is a touring motorcycle designed for long-distance rides with luggage storage. Side Street Cycles owner Kent Sweeney said that he was approached by a local motorcycle enthusiast about building a motorcycle that he could ride all day but still be able to handle mountain-type curves with the ease of a sport bike, a request Sweeney called “a tall order.”

The Allamakee Community Players will be presenting the Pat Cook comedy "Backstage" on the stage in the St. John’s Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall in Waukon. The City of Waukon has set its official Trick-or-Treat time for Saturday, October 31 from 4-8 p.m. Area residents are asked to leave porch lights on to welcome trick-or-treaters,  and the youngsters are reminded to keep safety in mind while making their rounds from house to house.

TASC, Inc.
TASC, Inc. will be offering open house trick-or-treating this Friday, October 30 at its facility located at 2213 Mount Olivet Road NW, just off Highway 76 north of Waukon. Trick-or-treating will take place at TASC from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. that day.

The City of Waukon Water Department will be conducting smoke testing of sanitary sewer lines within the southwest quadrant of Waukon Thursday, October 15 in an effort to help locate any breaks, breaches or defects within the sewer system. Notice is being given to alert all area residents that smoke may be visible from vent stacks on homes and other buildings, or rising from holes in the ground, and should not be confused with smoke from a fire. City officials advise that the smoke being used for the testing has no odor, is non-toxic, non-staining, does not create a fire hazard, and will dissipate in a few minutes.
