Obituaries are published in The Standard for a $45 fee and can be brought to the office at 15 First Street NW in Waukon, mailed to PO Box 286, Waukon IA 52172, or e-mailed to news@waukonstandard.com. Photos may be included for an additional charge of $15 (additonal photos are also $15). Obituaries of excessive length (longer than our single-column length of 15.5") will also incur an additional charge of $11/column inch for the content measuring longer than our 15.5-inch column length. Rev. Marlyn Hansing

Rev. Marlyn Hansing Reverend Marlyn DeVagne Hansing, age 93, of Bloomington, MN died November 12, 2014. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, November 21 at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 8400 France in Bloomington, MN, with visitation at 1 p.m. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 22 at Kickapoo United Lutheran Church, Soldiers Grove, WI. Rev. Hansing was born in Thompson May 11, 1921 to Emma (Peterson) and Hans Andreas Hansing. He was a graduate of Luther College in Decorah and Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN. He married Gerda Solveig Davig in 1950. He was a Master Sergeant Fifth U.S. Army/AFR WWII, North Africa and Italy and was awarded four Bronze Stars, Silver Star, Army Commendation Ribbon, and a Purple Heart. During his 63-year ministry he was blessed to serve Lutheran congregations in Westby and Harlowton, MT; Hoyt Lakes, MN; Radcliffe, Waukon and Kelley in Iowa; and La Crosse, WI.

Brian Slindee

    Brian E. Slindee, 51, of Waukon died Monday, November 10, 2014 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 15 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing, with Fr. John Moser officiating. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lansing.

Brian Edmund Slindee was born August 18, 1963 in La Crosse, WI, the son of Carl and Alice (Pfiffner) Slindee. Brian loved going to school and attended class in Lansing, New Albin and Decorah; he graduated from Abner Hendrickson School in Decorah in 1984.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah Monday, November 10, with Rev. Phillip Gibbs and Monsignor Edward Lechtenberg officiating. Burial with military graveside rites by the Decorah Veterans Group was at St. Benedict Catholic Cemetery, Decorah.

Bill Sires, age 89, of Mabel, MN, formerly of Spring Grove, MN, died Saturday, November 8, 2014 at Green Lea Senior Living in Mabel, MN. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 13 at the Calvary Evangelical Free Church in Spring Grove, MN, with Pastor Eddie Cabrera officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Spring Grove, MN. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, November 12 at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel, MN and one hour prior to services at the church.

Harlan Martin

Harlan J. Martin, 72, of Waukon died Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 8 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Jim Dubert and Deacon Mike Ward officiating. Burial with military graveside rites was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon.

Harlan James Martin was born August 16, 1942 in Luana, the son of James and Hazel Irene (Rongstad) Martin. He attended Waukon Schools and later received his GED. From 1962 until 1965 he served in the U.S. Army.

Erika Kielstrup as the Officiant. Interment followed at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Monona with Military Honors.

Ruth Preston

Ruth A. (Gruber) Preston, 85, of Kennewick, WA passed away Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at the Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice House surrounded by her family. At Ruth's request, no services were held. Memorial contributions can be made to the Hospice at The Chaplaincy, www.tricitieschaplaincy.org.
Ruth Alice was born January 18, 1929 to Clifford and Esther (Thompson) Gruber in Lansing. She graduated from Lansing High School in 1946 and from the University of Dubuque and Finley Hospital School of Nursing in 1951. Ruth married Richard Preston of Dubuque October 12,1951 at Central United Church in Richland, WA.

Lois Seeley

Lois Marie Seeley, 85, of Lansing, formerly of Waterloo, passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2014. A memorial service was held Sunday, November 2 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Lansing. Pastor Laura Gentry officiated with a burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Lansing.
Lois was married to Bert Seeley March 26, 1948. Bert and Lois lived in Waterloo until Bert’s retirement from John Deere in 1981 when they moved to Lansing. Lois adored spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed spending time baking, gardening, knitting and playing dominoes.
Survivors include a daughter, Margaret (Don) St. Martin; a son, Alan (Paula) Seeley; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren/ She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bert; both parents and two brothers.
