Celebrate a child’s first fish

Preserve the memory of a child or grandchild hooking their first fish this summer with a special certificate. Print the certificate from an electronic file posted online or request a printed certificate from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

Apply for a first fish certificate online at www.iowadnr.gov/firstfish. It’s easy and free to participate. There are no size, species or age requirements - only that it is the very first fish the angler has successfully landed.

Family and friends can join in on the celebration by viewing the first catch photos of their kids and other budding anglers on the First Fish webpage once the entry is approved.

Give kids a lifetime of big memories out on the water this summer. Follow the simple tips for taking kids fishing on the Iowa DNR website at fishing.iowadnr.gov to help keep the experience fun and positive for the whole family.

COVID-19 Reopening Guidance: Use of School Facilities

The purpose of this document is to provide general principles that apply to facilities that are somehow related to school districts or accredited nonpublic schools. This guidance is necessary in light of Iowa Governor Kim Reynold’s disaster proclamations of April 27, May 6, May 13 and May 20, 2020, and any subsequent proclamations, which allow facilities in certain areas to open under certain circumstances and permit a limited resumption of summer school activities.

COVID-19 Reopening Guidance: Summer Sports

This guidance was created in consultation with the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH), Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) and Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) as a resource for administrators to determine when and how districts and nonpublic schools may begin to engage in school sports seasons while keeping participants and spectators safe. It must be used in conjunction with all proclamations issued by the governor and guidance provided by the IDPH. Additional guidance will be provided by IHSAA and IGHSAU.

Beginning June 1, team organized practices for baseball and softball may begin unless circumstances dictate a change in date. Baseball and softball games may begin June 15, unless circumstances dictate a change in date. The following mitigation efforts are required to help ensure player, coach and spectator safety during practices and games:

Closing of schools for remainder of school year forces cancellation of Iowa high school spring sports season

Following the Friday, April 17 recommendations to keep Iowa schools closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year due to the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19), all spring activities of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) and the Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) have also been canceled.

The cancellation of all four boys and girls sports - golf, soccer, tennis, and track and field - was made by the IGHSAU and IHSAA in cooperation with the Iowa Department of Education and State of Iowa officials. The decision was also approved by the IGHSAU and IHSAA boards. The cancellation is effective for all spring practices, competitions and postseason events.

Kee girls track team looks to build on last season’s team State title, returns 15 letterwinners including three from championship relays

Coming off an historic season that saw the Kee girls track and field team share its first-ever team State Championship, the Lady Hawks are looking to continue to build on their recent string of history-making feats during their 2020 campaign. A total of 15 returning letterwinners from last season’s squad will certainly provide a solid foundation upon which to try and continue to further build that track and field momentum, including some returning pieces of last season’s State Championship puzzle that will headline this season’s group of 23 freshman through senior competitors.

Kee boys track team fields 18 competitors for first-year head coach Beth Moline

The Kee boys track team is entering its 2020 season with a new face at the helm of the program but not necessarily a new face to track and field within the Eastern Allamakee Community School District, and certainly not a new face to the track and field athletic scene. Beth Moline will be taking over the head coaching reins for this year’s Hawk boys, replacing Pat Wagner after he assumed the Kee boys varsity basketball head coaching position this past winter and ended his multi-year stint at the Hawk track and field coaching helm.
