The Anderson Busness Family Reunion will be held Sunday, August 13 at the restored barn of Robert and Eunice Kolsrud located at 1275 Gjefle Drive, Waukon. All family members are invited for a potluck dinner, which will be served at 12:30 p.m. and will include broasted chicken, with plates, cups, utensils and beverages to be provided.

Those attending are asked to bring a vegetable, salad or dessert to share. Local family members are requested to invite immediate family members residing outside the area.

A short meeting will follow dinner and will offer an opportunity to share new information and update the family history. Those attending should be prepared to share a favorite “Barn” story.

The Waukon High School Class of 1961will not meet in July. The next meeting is scheduled for August 25 at 11:30 a.m. at Gus & Tony’s. All classmates are invited.
 

Randy and Melissa Wedo of Monona announce the birth of their son, Jayce Patrick Wedo, born July 5, 2017 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. He weighed 10 lbs. 3 ozs. and measured 22 inches in length at the time of his birth. He joins siblings, Kendyl (5) and Reid (22 months).

Grandparents are Mark Ehrhardt of Monona and Pat and Jane Wedo of Castalia. Pat Breitspecher of Monona is a great-grandparent.
 

Caleb and Danielle Ferring of Waukon announce the birth of their daughter, Addison Erin Ferring, born July 6, 2017 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. She weighed 8 lbs. 15 ozs. and measured 21 inches in length at the time of her birth.

Grandparents are Becky Hackett-Leas and Ron Leas of Letts, and Mike and Linda Ferring of Waukon. Great-grandparents are Don and Trudy Hackett of Marquette, Frank and Sandy McMillin of McGregor, Bill and Karen Ferring of Waukon, and Verland and Ellen Lenth of Waukon.
 

Jason and Danielle Howe of Waukon announce the birth of their son, Drew Emmett Howe, born July 7, 2017 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. He weighed 9 lbs. 9 ozs. and measured 22 inches in length at the time of his birth. He joins siblings, Dakota (14), Dallas (13), Dalton (10) and Dayne (almost 9).

Grandparents are Lloyd and Betty Welsh of Lansing and the late Emmett and Betty Howe.

Jeremy Nelson and Julian Miles of Waukon announce the birth of their son, Liam Quinn Nelson, born July 6, 2017 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. He weighed 6 lbs. 4 ozs. and measured 20 inches in length at the time of his birth. He joins a sister, Kinsley (2).

Grandparents are Sarah Miles and John Miles of La Crosse, WI and Kathy and Patrick Nelson of Waterville.

Jay and Leslie Elsbernd of Decorah announce the birth of their son, Francis Martin Elsbernd, born July 7, 2017 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. He weighed 9 lbs. and measured 22 inches in length at the time of his birth. He joins siblings, Claire (3) and Marian (2).

Grandparents are Steve and Patty Elsbernd of Ridgeway and Craig and Ellen Cutting of Decorah.

Corn and soybean farmers can learn from fellow farmers how to improve cover crop seeding success, as well as seeding cover crops before planting corn the following spring at an education event on Monday, July 24, near Arlington.

The event is sponsored by the Fayette County Corn Growers, Iowa Corn, Iowa Department of Agriculture & Land Stewardship, Iowa Seed Association and Oregon Ryegrass Growers Commission.

WHEN: Monday, July 24 at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

10 a.m. Arlington corn and seed corn grower Tim Recker and Iowa Seed Corn Cover Crops Initiative coordinator Shannon Moeller will talk about cost share for seed corn ground.

11 a.m. Waverly corn and soybean grower Mark Mueller, a Bremer County Corn Growers and Iowa Corn Growers Association board member, will discuss his experience with cover crops and the Soil Health Partnership.

More than half of Iowa farmland is rented. In some Iowa locations, as much as 70 percent of the land is farmed by farmers who don’t own the land.

In Northeast Iowa, the result is many conversations and negotiations between farmland owners and producer-tenants to determine what makes sense for farmland leases and cash rental rates - both fixed rent and flexible arrangements. Strong landlord/tenant relationships are important for the long-term viability of Iowa’s farming communities.

These are just a few reasons why Iowa State University Extension and Outreach offers workshops designed to answer questions that land owners and tenants have about farmland leasing and land values.

These workshops will be held across northeast Iowa counties starting August 7 through August 17.

Melissa O’Rourke, ISU Extension Farm & Agribusiness Management Specialist will present a wide range of topics related to farmland values and leasing.
