Iowa House Report


Governor Vilsack has urged the Legislature to make pseudoephedrine a Schedule V controlled substance. A Schedule V substance may only be dispensed by a pharmacist. Under this plan, based on legislation adopted by the state of Oklahoma, Iowans would need to show ID and sign a logbook to buy any product containing the drug. While the plan may work to curb the growing meth problem in the state, it is plagued with problems. Some of these problems are as follows:
* Signatures may be illegible and/or fraudulent;

... that it was somewhat discouraging to type Feb. 2 at the top of this column after that weekend snow storm. It's a reminder that this area's snowiest months, February and March, are still ahead of us!
Where's that vaunted global warming when we need it most? It appears we are in the midst of one of those often cited old fashioned winters. But it's not all bad.
