Waukon baseball team wins one of four in pair of NEIC doubleheaders

The Waukon baseball team worked to snap what had become a 13-game losing streak this past week, picking up a single win in four games played as the regular season begins to wind down. The Indians opened the week suffering a doubleheader road sweep in Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) play at Decorah by scores of 3-0 and 11-0 in five innings Tuesday, July 1 before splitting another NEIC doubleheader at Oelwein Thursday, July 3, falling by a 13-3 result in six innings and pulling out an 11-6 victory.
The Indians currently hold a 4-21 record on the season that includes a mark of 2-11 in Northeast Iowa Conference play.

Waukon softball team closes out regular season falling short in five games

The Waukon softball team wrapped up its regular season in less than desirable fashion, sliding in each of its final five regular season games this past week to finish the season on a seven-game skid. The Indians dropped a Northeast Iowa Conference doubleheader to New Hampton in their final home contest of the season by scores of 7-3 and 13-5 Tuesday, July 1 before suffering an 8-0 loss at Class 1A 15th-rated Kee Wednesday, July 2. The softball Tribe then brought its regular season to a close with another Northeast Iowa Conference doubleheader sweep suffered at Crestwood Thursday, July 3 by scores of 5-1 and 10-0 in six innings.
The Indians finished up their regular season with a 7-24 overall record that includes a 2-16 mark that placed them seventh in the final Northeast Iowa Conference standings.
The Indians are scheduled to return to Crestwood Tuesday, July 8 for the first round of Class 3A Regional Tournament play.

Kee softball claims Upper Iowa Conference championship in full final week

The Kee softball team wrapped up its regular season by winning a narrow majority of its final games played this past week, clinching top honors in the Upper Iowa Conference along the way. The Hawks played to a split in an Upper Iowa Conference doubleheader at MFL/MarMac Monday, June 30, falling in game one by a 3-2 result before bouncing back with a 5-0 triumph in the nightcap, before posting a home non-conference win against Waukon, 8-0, Wednesday, July 2. The Hawks swept their final Upper Iowa Conference doubleheader of the season at Clayton Ridge Thursday, July 3 by scores of 12-2 and 12-0 in just five frames before winning one of four games played at the Don Bosco Tournament Friday and Saturday, July 4 and 5.

The Kee baseball team had a total of six games scheduled for this past week, but had half of those impacted by weather. The Hawks had a Monday, June 30 Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) doubleheader at MFL/MarMac called off because of stormy weather, and only got through half of a home UIC double-dip with North Fayette Valley Tuesday, July 1 - falling by an 11-1 result in five innings - before having the second game postponed by weather to Saturday, July 5, where the Hawks bounced back with a 5-1 victory. Kee also swept a non-conference doubleheader at Crestwood Thursday, July 3 by scores of 5-0 and 8-5.

Kee baseball team plays to even record in just four games this past week

The Kee baseball team played a fairly light schedule this past week, turning out an even 2-2 result in four games. That evenly-split foursome included an equally split home debut on the renovated Shooky Fink Field in New Albin against Turkey Valley Thursday, June 26, Kee falling in game one by a 7-3 result before bouncing back for a 3-0 nightcap victory behind a no-hit pitching effort tossed by senior Jared Donahue. Kee then took part in the annual Jeff Houg Memorial Baseball Tournament in Waukon Saturday, June 28, finishing third after falling to eventual tournament runner-up Waterloo Columbus by a 19-8 count before securing a consolation victory over Waukon, 11-1 in five innings.

Waukon baseball team comes up shy of the win column in five games

The Waukon baseball team was denied in its efforts this past week to add any of its five games played to the win column, as the Indians dropped to a 3-18 overall record that includes a mark of 1-7 in Northeast Iowa Conference play. The Tribe dropped a home doubleheader to Class 3A fourth-rated Waverly-Shell Rock Monday, June 23 by scores of 10-0 and 12-2 in five innings each, surrendered a 6-4 loss at home to Postville Wednesday, June 25 and then finished fourth at its own Jeff Houg Memorial Baseball Tournament Saturday, June 28, falling by a 15-1 count in five innings to eventual tournament champion, Class 2A eighth-rated South Winneshiek, before losing an 11-1 decision in five innings to Kee in the consolation finals of the tournament.

The Waukon softball team was only able to put one of its seven games in the win column this past week, adding that win to its Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) record to currently hold a 7-19 overall record, 2-12 in NEIC play. The Indians began the week with a 4-1 loss at Charles City Monday, June 23 before falling at home to Decorah Wednesday, June 25 by scores of 10-0 in five innings and 12-2. The softball Tribe then split a road NEIC doubleheader at Oelwein Thursday, June 26, falling by a 6-5 result in nine innings before winning the 8-4 nightcap, and then fell in two games at the Decorah Tournament Saturday, June 28, surrendering a 4-3 decision to Turkey Valley in the tournament opener before falling to St. Ansgar by a 12-0 result in just three innings.

Kee softball team continues to roll with undefeated busy week of 10 games

After going winless in its previous week of limited competition, the Kee softball team reversed its fortune considerably this past week, rattling off 10 straight wins during an undefeated busy stretch on the diamond. The Hawks improved to a 24-5 overall record, including a 17-1 mark that keeps them atop the Upper Iowa Conference.

Kee baseball team wins one of just three games this week

The Kee baseball team was able to play one game early on in the week, but also experienced a few rain postponements, having to cancel and also reschedule some games for later on in the season. Monday, June 16, the Hawks went to Postville to play the Pirates, winning the first game by a 6-4 result but having to cancel the second game due to rain. Tuesday, June 17, Kee was scheduled to play against Clayton Ridge/Central, but the rain stopped the game, and there will be no make-up game. Thursday, the Hawks were slated to host the North Fayette Valley TigerHawks, but that game was also called due to rain and rescheduled for July 1. Kee was able to wrap up its week Saturday, June 21 with a pair of games hosted by Class 1A seventh-rated Don Bosco, the Hawks falling to both Class 2A ninth-rated Iowa City Regina, 7-1, and the host Dons, 13-0 in five innings.

Waukon baseball team battles through winless week against NEIC trio

The Waukon baseball team went without a victory for the first time during a week’s worth of competition this past week, falling in three Northeast Iowa Conference contests. The Indians managed just four total runs and 10 total hits in those three games, falling at home to Oelwein, 10-2, in a rain-shortened six innings Monday, June 16 before doing likewise on the road at New Hampton, 11-2, Wednesday, June 18 and at Crestwood, 6-0, Friday, June 20.
