In conjunction with the extensive remodeling taking place at Citizens State Bank, the clock which has been in front of the building for over 50 years was taken down to be cleaned and repaired recently.
Dani Livingood was the winner of the biggest box of candy and prizes given away by the Herald-Leader and are merchants.
Jarrod Olson and Lindsay Keune were crowned Sweetheart King and Queen at the annual dance held over the weekend.

The House on Mango Street is "one of the most poetic and yet accessible novels from the growing body of Latino literature in the U. S. I hope that community members who enjoy a good read will join the discussion on February 15. I am pleased to be able to lead the discussion," states David Thompson. Thompson, an assistant professor of Spanish at Luther College, has been doing volunteer work in Postville. As part of the Tuesday evening ESL class, he has been teaching those students who wish to earn their GED in Spanish.

The employees at Casey's General Store & Pizza in Postville truly demonstrated the joy of giving during the holiday season as they decided rather than buy gifts for one another they would remember area young people who are serving our country in the Iraq.
Manager Katie Kerr-Scheffert said, "We felt we wanted to help the service people who could not celebrate the holidays at home with loved ones. We thought sending them phone cards would brighten up their holidays a little."

On July 15, 2005, the Postville Visitor Center will be sponsoring a community concert at the Fine Arts and Civic Center in Postville featuring the Celebrate Iowa Singers and Jazz Band (formerly State Fair Players).
In order to provide this concert, community help is needed.

Brock Taylor, four-month-old son of Brian and Brenda Taylor, has had a traumatic beginning to his little life. Born six weeks prematurely, Brock was born Oct. 2, 2004. At birth Brock's esophagus was not attached to his stomach and therefore it is impossible for him to eat. He has already had several surgeries trying to correct the condition as well as having been hospitalized with pneumonia several times. The little lad was scheduled for another round of major surgery on Monday, Feb. 7. Currently Brock must be fed through tubes.

Speech students receive top rating at state

Drug and explosives charges have led to the arrest of Grant Mork, 51, of Postville. Mork is being held without bond in the Allamakee County Jail.
When attempting to arrest Mork January 28 on a federal warrant, ingredients used in the manufacture of meth at the Mork residence were observed.

The Postville Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a seminar entitled "Meth in our Community" Thursday, Feb. 24 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Fine Arts and Civic Center. This free seminar will feature input from Jeremy Strub, Allamakee County Substance Abuse Coordinator; the Allamakee County Sheriff's Department; the Postville Police Department and Sherryl Paul of the Northeast Iowa Department of Correctional Services.

Booster Club to meet Feb. 9
The Pirate Booster Club will meet Wednesday, Feb. 9 in the Mott Lobby at 8 p.m. (please note the time change). Discussion will center around Little Pirate Wrestling and 5 on 5 Basketball tournaments. All workers and members need to be present so details for these events can be finalized.

      Our road easement on Peterson Hollow started to grow back. But this quit after a few pictures of this growth.
Not hearing from our Allamakee County Engineer, Supervisors, or Attorney on the rule that gives them the right to Allamakee County landowners' road easements, we decided to write Iowa State University in Ames, since they made up the Planning and Zoning booklets, and see if they can come up with the rule that gives Allamakee County the right to Allamakee County landowners' road easements.
