Heins, Straate named to dean's list at Luther

DECORAH, Iowa: Danielle Heins, a sophomore and Anne Straate, a junior from Postville, Iowa, have been named to the Luther College Dean's List for the fall semester of the 2004-05 academic year.
Heins, the daughter of Mike and Lisa Heins of Postville, is majoring in social work at Luther. She is a 2003 graduate of Postville Community High School.
Straate, the daughter of Stanley and Mary Straate of Postville, is majoring in Spanish at Luther. She is a 2002 graduate of Postville Community High School.

Bodensteiner involved in Central Fringe Festival

PELLA : Jarrod Bodensteiner of Postville is involved in Central College's Fringe Festival Wednesday-Saturday, Feb. 23-26. The festival, dubbed On the Loose, features seven shows acted, directed, organized and produced by more than 50 students at four different venues. The performances are free and open to the public.

SHARE provides groceries at reduced prices

Are you hungry? Are you tired of grocery store prices? Would you like a way to make your grocery dollar go further? SHARE has the answers to these and other questions of interest or at least to some relating to eating.
SHARE is a program through which everyone, young or old, rich or poor, can participate. It is a program requiring you to volunteer two (2) hours of your time a month wherever you would like thus enabling you to buy a SHARE.

West Post Project Club

The regular meeting of the West Post Project Club was held at 1:30 in the afternoon on February 16, 2005, at the home of Leona Mathews. President JoAnne Bodley called the meeting to order and Leona gave the thought for the day. The pledge of allegiance was said. Eight members answered the roll call by telling about a Valentine's gift they'd received. The secretary-treasurer's report was read and approved.

Upper Iowa University's deans list for the fall 2004 semester includes the following Postville students:
Joy Bartlein, Jill Boese, Victoria Hoffman, Jessica Kruse, Sarah Larkin, Aimee Snitker, and Jillian White.
Other area students include: Derek Friederich, Luana; Angela Hundt, Michelle Sullivan, and Julie Timmerman, McGregor; Allison Bernhard, Eliza Fox, Shane Hagensick and Denise Thompson, all of Monona.

Sweetheart Royalty

Sweetheart Royalty crowned at PHS dance this weekend
Kala Henning and Randy Wedo (top photo) were crowned Sweetheart Queen and King at the dance sponsored by FCCLA and FFA last weekend. The Sweetheart Court (pictured on the left) includes (front, left to right) Blaine Grinna, Kelsie Deering, Chris Irvine, Stacy Berns, Kala Henning, Randy Wedo, Lexie Everman and Travis Donlon. In the back row are Mark Donlon, Casie Miner, Tim Delaney, Courtney Brainard, Angie Dibble, Kory Snitker, Kaylee Zuercher and Corby Friederich.

Pastor Allen Hermeier teams up with Greg Hamm in interim ministry at St. Paul

Pastor Allen Hermeier, who resides in Decorah with his wife Helen, began serving St. Paul Lutheran Church on January 1. Hermeier, who is serving St. Paul as an interim pastor, was born and raised in northeast Iowa.
He said, "I feel right at home in Postville. I grew up in Waukon where I played football against Postville athletes including Jack and Byron Schultz who have ties to this congregation."

Iowa Womens Foundation gives grant to KPVL

The Iowa Women's Foundation has given a $9,000 grant to KPVL, Postville's community radio station. The grant is the largest in the history of the Women's Foundation.
The money will be used to develop "KPVL's Voices of Women," 20 half-hour programs addressing the issues of immigrant populations relevant to women's health, domestic violence, racism and women's rights.

Drug interdiction operation held in Postville last week

On February 16, 2005 the Allamakee County Sheriff's Office assisted by Postville Police, Clayton County Sheriff's Special Operation Team, INS, Iowa Highway Patrol, Iowa DNE and the Iowa National Guard conducted a drug interdiction operation in Postville, IA that resulted in the the arrest of four individuals.
