Waukon girls basketball team wins two of three after holiday break

The Waukon girls basketball team returned to action following the holiday season facing its busiest week of the winter campaign, scheduled for four games in a span of a week but having the last of those, a Friday, January 8 home game with Charles City postponed due to winter weather to January 19. The Tribe opened its post-holiday schedule with a 59-40 non-conference win at Clayton Ridge Saturday, January 2 before falling at Decorah, 44-41, Tuesday, January 5 but bouncing back with a 63-51 home victory over MFL/MarMac Thursday, January 7.
Improving to a 5-7 season record, including a 2-5 mark in Northeast Iowa Conference play, the Indians will slow their schedule down a bit from their busy post-holiday start. The Tribe was scheduled to host North Fayette Valley Monday, January 11 before playing at New Hampton Friday, January 15 and then making up that January 8 Charles City postponement Tuesday, January 19 before hosting Oelwein Friday, January 22.

Waukon wrestling team swept in six straight dual meets following holiday break

The Waukon wrestling team returned to the mat following the holiday break for what amounted to six dual meets within a span of less than 48 hours this past week. Forfeits loomed large for the Indian matmen, as all six of those duals avoided the win column for the Tribe, as the Indians were swept in a double dual at Charles City Thursday, January 7 by both the host school, 65-5, and Decorah, 45-26, before falling in all four of its dual meets at the New Hampton Dual Tournament Saturday, January 9. The mat Tribe fell to New Hampton, 78-0, Southeast Polk, 39-27, Dover-Eyota, MN, 55-21, and Waterloo East, 51-30, in that weekend competition.

Kee boys basketball team falls to West Central after holiday break

The three-point line gave the Kee boys basketball team a high degree of difficulty in its 65-39 loss at home to West Central Tuesday, January 5, the only game on the Hawk schedule this past week after a Friday, January 8 contest with Central Elkader was postponed due to winter weather. A 0-for-9 Kee result from behind that arc left the Hawks scoreless from there, while their Blue Devil guests pumped in 13 three-point bombs to actually equal Kee’s point total from the entire game.

Waukon wrestling team finishes third at Central Elkader Invitational

The Waukon wrestling team returned to action almost immediately following the holidays, competing in the Central Elkader Invitational Tournament Saturday, January 2. The Indians had three wrestlers battle to individual runner-up efforts and five others place third to lead the way to a third-place team finish in the eight-team tournament field.

Kee girls basketball defeats De Soto, enters holiday break with 8-1 record

The Kee girls basketball team used its most balanced overall offensive effort of the season to post its highest offensive total of the season in posting a 71-40 victory at home against De Soto, WI Tuesday, December 22. Five different Hawks chipped in double-digit scoring totals as Kee overcame a competitive first quarter to consistently pull away to the double-digit non-conference victory over the visiting Pirates.

Waukon boys basketball team falls to MFL/MarMac in overtime

The Waukon boys basketball team had one final game on its schedule prior to the holiday break from school, but was facing yet another traditionally strong program from northeast Iowa when the Indians traveled to Monona Tuesday, December 22 to take on the MFL/Mar Mac Bulldogs. Having suffered back-to-back losses by considerable margins the week prior to a pair of Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) frontrunners, the Indians stepped outside the NEIC to battle the top team from the Upper Iowa Conference, waging war with the host Bulldogs to a 72-72 knot through four quarters of regulation, only to have the game get away in overtime for a third consecutive loss, 88-81.

Kee boys basketball team falls to De Soto in non-conference event

Despite showing consistent improvement on the scoreboard throughout the ballgame, the Kee boys basketball team was also consistently outpaced by the host De Soto, WI Pirates in their game before the holiday break Monday, December 21. Even with that consistent improvement, the Hawks shot just 28% from the floor and struggled to stop the host Pirates in falling by a 74-42 final result.

Waukon football 2015 season adds another link to recent chain of State Play-Off qualification

The 2015 season turned out to be yet another in a recent string of success for the Waukon football program. For the third time in the past four seasons - starting with the 2012 season, the gridiron Tribe not only qualified for the Class 2A State Play-Offs, but also took that qualification to at least two postseason victories and advancement to the quarterfinal round of those Class 2A Play-Offs.

Waukon wrestlers fall to New Hampton and Crestwood, place sixth at Starmont


Quick fall at 182 pounds ... Waukon wrestling 182-pound senior Joe Frieden awaits the slap of the mat from the official looking on in his bout with New Hampton senior Adam Wurzer in the Indians’ 57-18 loss to the Chickasaws in a Thursday, December 17 home double dual. Frieden pinned Wurzer in just 27 seconds and also received a forfeit in the Indians’ 51-24 dual loss to Class 2A fifth-rated Crestwood in the second half of that double dual. The Waukon wrestling team wrapped up its pre-holiday schedule with a busy latter half of the week, hosting another home double-dual before competing in a weekend tournament. The Indians were swept by both Class 2A fifth-rated Crestwood, 51-24, and by New Hampton, 57-18, in that home double-dual Thursday, December 17 before placing sixth in the 11-team Doug Guilford Tournament hosted by Starmont High School Saturday, December 19.
Sporting a 4-5 season record, 0-3 in Northeast Iowa Conference action, the Indians will now break for the holidays, returning to action Saturday, January 2 at the Central Elkader Tournament.

Kee girls basketball team starts another winning streak with back-to-back UIC wins

The Kee girls basketball team bounced back from its first loss of the season by starting another winning streak with a sweep of two Upper Iowa Conference games this past week. The Lady Hawks posted a 56-35 win at South Winneshiek Tuesday, December 15 before completing their undefeated week with a 58-39 home win over Starmont Friday, December 18.
Holding a 7-1 overall record on the season, 5-1 in Upper Iowa Conference play, the Lady Hawks were scheduled to play host to DeSoto, WI Tuesday, December 22 before the holiday break. They will then return to the court January 5 at home against West Central.
