Waukon baseball team ends regular season with single win in four games

The Waukon baseball team brought its regular season to a close this past week, winning one of its final four games on the regular season schedule to finish that slate with a 12-16 overall record that included a mark of 4-14 to place the Indians seventh in the final Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) standings. The Indians were first swept at Class 2A eighth-rated New Hampton, 11-2 and 10-0 in five innings, Tuesday, July 7 in the Chickasaws’ quest for their first NEIC season championship in 43 years. The baseball Tribe then played to a split at Crestwood Friday, July 10 in its regular season finale, pulling off a 9-8 victory but also falling by a 6-2 end result.
The Indians will now prepare for their first-round Class 3A District Tournament game at fourth-rated West Delaware to be played in Manchester this Friday, July 17, beginning at 7 p.m.

Kee softball team has State return quest ended by 2-1 regional finals loss

The Kee softball team had its 2015 season brought to a close just short of its quest for a return trip to the Class 1A State Tournament, venturing down that postseason trail to win two of three games to come up only a single run short of another shot at a State Championship berth. The Lady Hawks first made their way through some familiar territory with back-to-back regional tournament wins at home over fellow Upper Iowa Conference teams Central Elkader, 10-1 Wednesday, July 8 in quarterfinal action, and 7-6 over Turkey Valley in the regional semifinals Friday, July 10.

Waukon softball team has season ended with first-round Regional loss at North Fayette Valley

The 2015 season came to a close for the Waukon softball team in the opening round of its Class 3A District Tournament at North Fayette Valley in West Union Wednesday, July 8. The Indians were out-hit by a 10-2 count and committed five defensive errors in falling by a 10-0 final result in six innings.
The softball Indians wrapped up their 2015 season with a 7-19 overall record that included a mark of 2-13 that placed them sixth in the final Northeast Iowa Conference standings. North Fayette Valley went on to fall to Class 3A sixth-rated Waterloo Columbus by a score of 9-0 in their Friday, July 10 regional semifinals match-up.

Waukon softball team wraps up regular season with single win in five games

The Waukon softball team finished up its regular season this past week, starting off on a high note before surrendering its final four games of the regular season to end up with a 7-18 regular season record that included a 2-13 mark that places the Indians sixth in the final Northeast Iowa Conference standings. That positive start to this past week saw the softball Tribe pull out a 7-6 home win over New Hampton Monday, June 29 in a game rescheduled from June 11 before the Chickasaws returned that favor twice as hard the following night by scores of 15-7 and 7-5. The Indians then closed out their regular season with a home doubleheader loss to Class 3A 14th-rated Crestwood by scores of 9-3 and 12-2 in six innings Thursday, July 2.
A Wednesday, July 1 home game with Kee was canceled due to Kee having to make up its June 29 Upper Iowa Conference game with MFL/MarMac.

Waukon baseball breaks into NEIC win column with three wins in five games

The Waukon baseball team finally broke its season-long winless streak in Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) play this week, doing so in considerable fashion with three such wins out of five games played. The Indians first broke into the NEIC win column with a 6-5 win at Oelwein Monday, June 29 in a game shortened to just five innings by stormy weather before splitting a pair of home doubleheaders to finish off the week. The baseball Tribe first loss to Decorah, 6-4, before shutting out the Vikings, 6-0, Tuesday, June 30 and then finished off the week with a Senior Night split with Oelwein that included a 5-2 loss and a 2-0 win featuring a no-hit pitching effort by senior Landon Sivesind and a walk-off homerun by senior Jake Ronan.

Kee baseball team falls in pair of home doubleheaders vs. Crestwood, MFL

The Kee baseball team battled through a winless week that ended up being a flurry at week’s end. A Monday, June 29 home doubleheader with MFL/MarMac ended up being postponed to Friday, July 3, where the Hawks suffered a sweep by the Bulldogs by scores of 11-8 and 5-2. Prior to that make-up game, Kee was also swept at home by Class 3A Crestwood Thursday, July 2 by final results of 8-3 and 12-8.
Currently holding a 9-17 overall record, including a 6-8 mark in Upper Iowa Conference play, the baseball Hawks were originally scheduled to travel to Edgewood-Colesburg Monday, July 6 and Wapsie Valley Tuesday, July 7 to wrap up their regular season, but had that July 6 date rained out and moved to July 7. Kee also recently added another pair of varsity doubleheaders to its schedule to finish out this week, playing at Nashua-Plainfield Wednesday, July 8 before bringing its regular season to a close Friday, July 10 at home against Riceville.

The Kee softball team wrapped up its regular season with another undefeated week on the diamond, completing its regular season slate with a final 15-game win streak and a 27-10 overall record that included a 17-1 Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) mark good enough edge out North Fayette Valley’s 16-2 UIC record for this season’s Upper Iowa Conference championship. North Fayette Valley is accountable for the Lady Hawks’ only UIC loss on the season.
“This team has many goals for the 2015 season,” Kee softball coach Liz Hill said. “I am proud of each player on the team because they all support each other and want to achieve high goals.”

Kee baseball splits sweeps of UIC twinbills, finishes fourth at Waukon tourney

The Kee baseball team won two of six games played this past week, recording opposite sweeps in two Upper Iowa Conference doubleheaders before finishing fourth at the annual Jeff Houg Tournament hosted by Waukon High School. The Hawks were first swept, 10-1 and 8-0, by Class 2A seventh-rated South Winneshiek Tuesday, June 23 in a home make-up game from June 11 before dealing that same fate to Turkey Valley on the road, 9-3 and 5-3, Thursday, June 25 and then coming in fourth at the Saturday, June 27 tournament with losses of 7-6 against Waukon in the opening round and 13-3 in six innings against Class 2A fourth-rated Waterloo Columbus in the consolation finals.

Kee softball team’s undefeated week includes UIC sweeps, Decorah Tournament title

The Kee softball team posted an undefeated week on the diamond this week, recording a pair of road sweeps in Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) play before also sweeping its way to the Decorah Tournament title Saturday, June 27. The Lady Hawks opened the week with a Wednesday, June 24 UIC doubleheader at West Central, sweeping the June 15 make-up twinbill by scores of 12-1 in six innings and 9-1. Kee then did likewise at Turkey Valley Thursday, June 25, 4-0 and 6-2, before having a Friday, June 26 non-conference date at Tripoli canceled from the schedule. The Lady Hawks wrapped up their unblemished week with three straight wins at the Decorah Tournament Saturday, including a 1-0 first-round win over Osage, another 1-0 win, this time in extra innings, in the tournament semifinals over Class 4A Perry and a 5-1 championship triumph over St. Ansgar.

The Waukon baseball team won one of four games this past week but nearly claimed the team title at its own annual home tournament. The Indians opened the week with a 13-2 loss in five innings at Class 3A third-rated Waverly-Shell Rock Monday, June 22 before dropping a 10-0 decision at home against Charles City Friday, June 26 to remain in search of their first Northeast Iowa Conference win of the season. The baseball Tribe then hosted its annual Jeff Houg Memorial Tournament Saturday, June 27, finishing in second place after defeating Kee, 7-6, on the final play in the opening round and then falling victim to a late rally by Class 2A seventh-rated South Winneshiek, 5-3, in the tournament championship game.
