The Waukon girls cross country team was a gracious host at its own Waukon Invitational held Tuesday, September 22 at the Waukon Golf & Country Club. The Lady Indians ran to an eighth-place finish out of nine teams at the meet, tallying 211 team points.
The Indians will next compete this Saturday, October 3 at the Crestwood Invitational in Cresco before wrapping up their regular season schedule at the South Winneshiek Invitational Tuesday, October 6.

The Waukon boys cross country team ran to a second-place team finish at its own home invitational Tuesday, September 22. Led by a pair of top-10 individual finishes, the Indians tallied 82 team points to finish behind Decorah, who placed four runners within the meet’s overall top 10. The Indians will next compete this Saturday, October 3 at the Crestwood Invitational in Cresco before wrapping up their regular season schedule at the South Winneshiek Invitational Tuesday, October 6. Waukon will then prepare for the Northeast Iowa Conference Meet October 13.

The Kee volleyball team had just one match on its schedule this past week and made the most of it by extending a current winning streak in Upper Iowa Conference play to three consecutive matches. The Hawks traveled to yet winless Postville Tuesday, September 22 and controlled the host Pirates in sweeping action by scores of 25-20, 25-18 and 25-18.
Sporting an 8-7 overall record, including a 3-1 mark in Upper Iowa Conference play, the Hawks were scheduled to next play at MFL/MarMac Tuesday, September 29 and at Clayton Ridge Thursday, October 1. Kee will finally return home Tuesday, October 6 to host West Central and will then remain there for a Thursday, October 8 home date with Edgewood-Colesburg.

The Waukon volleyball team had just a single match on its schedule this week, but that would be a big enough load to carry as Class 4A 11th-rated Waverly-Shell Rock came to town Tuesday, September 22. The perennial power Go-Hawks proved to be more than enough for the Indian netters, handing Waukon a three-set sweep by scores of 12-25, 14-25 and 13-25.
Holding a 5-11 season record, 0-3 in Northeast Iowa Conference play, the Indians were next scheduled to host MFL/MarMac Monday, September 28 in a match rescheduled from September 8 before traveling to New Hampton Tuesday, September 29. Waukon will then play in the Waterloo Columbus Tournament Saturday, October 3 before hosting its final home match of the season Tuesday, October 6 against Class 4A seventh-rated Charles City.

The Kee football team put together its first winning streak of the 2015 season, posting a second consecutive road victory in Eight-Player District 4 play Friday, September 25 at Cedar Valley Christian in Cedar Rapids. Posting just their second victory in the young, five-year history of their football program to start this season, the host Huskies were no match for the early Kee momentum that steamrolled the Hawks to a 40-0 headstart in the first quarter on the way to a 60-16 Kee triumph.

Improving to a 2-3 overall record, 2-1 in Eight-Player District 4, the Hawks return home this week for their annual Homecoming game. Kee will host West Central this Friday, October 2. The Blue Devils come off a 30-20 home loss to Central City this past Friday, September 25 and are still winless within Eight-Player District 4, sporting a 1-5 overall record on the season.

The Kee cross country team competed in a single meet this past week, taking part in the Waukon Invitational Tuesday, September 22. The Hawk boys finished 12 out of a dozen teams in the varsity boys race, with sophomore Nicki Wood being the lone high school girl to compete for Kee at the meet, placing 33rd out of 64 runners in a time of 23:15.

The Hawks were scheduled to compete Tuesday, September 29 at the Jesup Invitational. Kee will then have just over a week until its next competition scheduled for Thursday, October 8 at New Hampton.

One of the most anticipated match-ups on the Iowa high school football schedule from this past Friday, September 25 turned out one of the least anticipated results, as the top-five rated Waukon football team suffered a 48-8 loss at top-10 rated North Fayette Valley in Class 2A District 3 play. In a match-up touted as the Indian air game vs. the TigerHawk ground game, host North Fayette Valley racked up 430 yards on the ground while the Indian passing attack still managed 171 yards, but accounted for just one touchdown of just one yard and also gave up four interceptions in a 14-for-40 passing effort on a night when the Indian ground game managed just 86 yards.

The new press box at the Waukon High School football/track and field stadium was dedicated in honor of 2004 Waukon High School graduate and student-athlete Mitch Einck at halftime of the Friday, September 18 Waukon football home game, a 14-3 victory over Dyersville Beckman. Bryan Einck, older brother of Mitch and a 2001 Waukon High School graduate, spoke on behalf of the family as friends and former teammates of Mitch also joined members of the Einck family and Allamakee Community School District administrators during the dedication presentation. Allamakee Community School District Superintendent Dave Herold accepted a donation check in the amount of $26,500 from Dave and Nancy Einck, parents of Mitch Einck, to help fund the new press box. Those donated funds were the product of the generosity of family members and friends of the Einck family at the second annual Mitch Einck Memorial Golf Outing held in June of 2014.

The Waukon girls cross country team competed in its only meet of the week Tuesday, September 15 at the Starmont Invitational. In another unique scoring system, the meet features an overall team score for all teams but also compiles team scores for Class 1A teams only, as well as for Class 2A and Class 3A teams combined. The Lady Indians ran to a 13th-place overall finish out of 20 teams in all classes at the meet, as well as an eighth-place finish out of 11 teams in the Class 2A/Class 3A team scoring.
The Indians were scheduled to host their own Waukon Invitational Tuesday, September 22 and will next compete Saturday, October 3 at the Crestwood Invitational.

Off to a 0-3 start to the season and making a long bus trip to Central City to play football in the pouring rain would likely not forecast a very favorable outcome for most teams. But, for Coach Chad Winters and his Kee football team, it was quite the contrary as the Hawks brushed off all of those obstacles, along with a constant challenge from the host Wildcats, to record their first win of the 2015 season, a 28-26 triumph that went right down to the final minutes of play.
Now sporting a 1-3 overall record, 1-1 in Eight-Player District 4, the Hawks remain on the road this week to continue Eight-Player District 4 play, traveling to Cedar Valley Christian in Cedar Rapids this Friday, September 25. The Huskies have just a single win on the year and come off a 76-6 road loss at Central Elkader this past Friday.
