Waukon baseball team wedges win at Postville in between pair of NEIC home losses

The win column in the Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) escaped the Waukon baseball team yet again this past week, as the Tribe diamond dwellers sandwiched another mercy-rule win out of the NEIC in between a pair of league losses at home. Following postponement of the Tribe’s Monday, June 16 game at Oelwein to Monday, June 29, the baseball Indians fell at home to New Hampton, 12-3, Wednesday, June 17 and to Crestwood, 16-4, Friday, June 19. The Indians’ lone victory of the week came by an 11-1 count in six innings at Postville Thursday, June 18.

Waukon softball team falls in home pair to Decorah and South Winneshiek

The Waukon softball team let a pair of early leads slip away to two home losses this past week, falling to Decorah Monday, June 8 by a 9-5 count and to South Winneshiek Tuesday, June 9 by a 10-4 final result. Mother Nature also took her toll on the softball Indians this week, postponing the Tribe’s Thursday, June 11 home game against New Hampton to June 29 and canceling the Saturday, June 13 Anamosa Tournament. An originally scheduled June 10 home contest with Oelwein was also canceled, but that’s due to the Huskies not being able to field a varsity team this season.

Waukon baseball team posts season’s biggest win between series of NEIC losses

The Waukon baseball team remained in search of its first win in Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) play, falling in its three NEIC games out of four contests this past week. After falling in a doubleheader at Charles City Tuesday, June 9 by scores of 9-4 and 5-1, the Indians stepped outside of the NEIC to record their biggest win of the season, 13-3 over Turkey Valley at home, Wednesday, June 10. The baseball Tribe finished out the week by falling at Decorah Friday, June 12 by a 6-2 result.

Kee softball battles through rare winless week with losses to Crestwood and S-F

The Kee softball team suffered through a rarity of recent times this past week, coming up short of victory in every one of its games played during the week. The Lady Hawks suffered their worst loss of the season, 17-7 in six innings, to a nearly undefeated Class 3A Crestwood squad on the road Tuesday, June 9 before being swept at home Wednesday, June 10 by Sumner-Fredericksburg for two of their narrowest losses of the season by scores of 5-4 and 3-2. Kee also had its Thursday, June 11 home doubleheader with South Winneshiek postponed to Tuesday, June 16 by stormy weather.
“We had a few tough losses this past week, but we are playing better ball due to the difficult competition,” Kee softball coach Liz Hill said.

Waukon baseball team sweeps final three of five games for another winning week

The Waukon baseball team continued its early-season winning ways with a successful latter half of this past week, putting the final three of five games this past week in the win column. The Indians opened the week with their only two losses of that timeframe, a doubleheader sweep suffered at home to Waverly-Shell Rock Tuesday, June 2 by scores of 20-11 and 14-2 in six innings, but bounced back with a 12-7 win at  MFL/MarMac Wednesday, June 3 and a sweep of Kee on the road Friday, June 5 by scores of 12-8 and 9-3.
Improving to 5-3 on the season, the Indians were scheduled to travel to Charles City Tuesday, June 9, host Turkey Valley Wednesday, June 10 and play at Decorah Friday, June 12 for another busy week. They will then play at Oelwein, Monday, June 15, host New Hampton, Wednesday, June 17, play at Postville Thursday, June 18, and then host Crestwood Friday, June 19.

Kee softball team posts seven wins during heavy, 10-game schedule this past week

The Kee softball team competed in one of its busiest stretches of this season’s schedule, playing 10 games in a six-day span and putting seven of those games in the win column for a current season record of 9-4. The Hawks opened the week with six straight wins to extend an early-season win streak to eight straight games, including doubleheader sweeps at Central Elkader, 4-0 and 12-0, Monday, June 1, and at home against New Hampton, 5-0 and 11-1 in six innings Tuesday, June 2, and Starmont, 8-0 and 12-0 in six innings Thursday, June 4. The Lady Hawks’ win streak was brought to an end at the two-day North Fayette Valley Tournament, where Kee suffered 4-1 losses to both Class 1A top-rated AGWSR and Class 4A ninth-rated Waverly-Shell Rock Friday, June 5 and then split two Saturday, June 6 games by falling to Class 4A West Delaware, 6-1, and defeating Class 3A Monticello, 16-9.

Kee baseball team suffers pair of sweeps around one of its own over Starmont

The Kee baseball team recorded a doubleheader sweep of its own this past week in between suffering that same fate to begin and end the week of competition. The Hawks opened the week falling at Clayton Ridge Monday, June 1, 10-0 and 11-1, in a pair of six-inning losses before sweeping Starmont at home, 6-5 and 16-1 in just four innings. Kee then wrapped up the week with another doubleheader loss, falling to intra-county foe Waukon at home Friday, June 5 by scores of 12-8 and 9-3.
Sporting a 4-6 overall season record, the baseball Hawks are scheduled to play just a home doubleheader with South Winneshiek Wednesday, June 10 before playing in the St. Ansgar Tournament Saturday, June 13. The Kee diamond dwellers will then host Postville Monday, June 15 and Clayton Ridge/Central Tuesday, June 16 before playing at North Fayette Valley Thursday, June 18 and then at the North Fayette Valley Tournament Saturday, June 20.

Waukon softball team splits with Charles City, wins two of three at Classic

The Waukon softball team played to an even record this week, suffering a pair of losses early in its schedule before winning three of its final four games. Those early losses saw the Indians struggle offensively to fall to MFL/MarMac at home, 3-0, Wednesday, June 3 before splitting a Northeast Iowa Conference road doubleheader at Charles City, falling by an 11-0 count in five innings before bouncing back with a 5-4 nightcap victory. The softball Tribe then won two of three games at the Jerry Newton Classic hosted by Charles City Saturday, June 6, defeating Forest City, 8-5, and St. Ansgar, 5-4 in eight innings, but falling to Iowa Falls-Alden, 3-1.

Waukon baseball team one run shy of undefeated week; edges Clayton Ridge, finishes runner-up at Shooky Fink Tournament

The Waukon baseball team came up just shy of an undefeated opening week of competition this past week, winning two of its first three games of the 2015 season. Mother Nature also had a say in the baseball Tribe’s early-season schedule, postponing the Indians’ originally scheduled season-opener at North Fayette Valley from Tuesday, May 26 to July 1.
Following that postponement, Waukon ended up opening its season at Clayton Ridge Friday, May 29, pulling out a 5-4 road triumph. The baseball Indians then played to a second-place finish at the annual Shooky Fink Tournament hosted by Kee High School Saturday, May 30, defeating Postville, 11-3, in the opening round of the tournament before falling in the final inning of the championship game to the host school, 7-6, to end up as the tournament runner-up.

Waukon softball team falls to Class 4A 12th-rated Waverly-SR, defeats Central in opening week

The Waukon softball team opened its 2015 season with a three-game home stand, having to postpone its original Tuesday, May 26 season-opener due to rainy weather but ultimately making that postponement worth the wait with a thrilling, 5-4 victory over Central Elkader Friday, May 29. Prior to that first win of the season, the softball Tribe was dealt a doubleheader sweep at home Thursday, May 28 by Class 4A 12th-rated Waverly-Shell Rock by scores of 8-0 and 10-0 in six innings.
Off to a 1-2 start, the Indians will host MFL/MarMac Wednesday, June 3 before hitting the road for the first time this season with a Northeast Iowa Conference match-up at Charles City Thursday, June 4. The softball Tribe will then return to Charles City for a weekend tournament Saturday, June 6 before hosting three more nights of softball, Monday, June 8 against Decorah, Tuesday, June 9 against South Winneshiek and Thursday, June 11 against New Hampton.
