The Waukon girls basketball team opened its home season in victorious fashion, pulling out a 43-36 triumph over South Winneshiek Tuesday, November 25. The Indians methodically pulled away in the first two quarters of each half, but then also held off a late charge in each half by the visiting Warriors to help secure the victory.

“Our defense improved from our first game against Kee,” Waukon girls basketball coach Andy Sires said. “We did a much better job of getting back on defense and did not give up points in transition. Also, we stayed out of foul trouble.”

Good mix of veterans and newcomers results in 2014 Kee volleyball team playing to 12-17 record

The Kee volleyball team put together a 12-17 record for its 2014 campaign, tempering a dash of returning veteran leadership with a dose of young athleticism. That combination played out to a 4-5 UIC record that placed the Hawk netters in the middle of the final UIC standings, but also meshed well enough to allow the entire team to grow and peak when it mattered most, as the Hawks won their opening round of Class 1A Regional Tournament play over Central Elkader before having their season ended once again at the hands of top-10 ranked Turkey Valley in a hard-fought battle.

The Kee football team had its 2014 season brought to a close where half of Iowa’s high school football teams in the Eight-Player classification wished they could, meeting a majority of its team goals in the process. The Hawks played to a 6-3 regular season record that included a 5-0 mark at home and 4-3 District 4 record to earn State Play-Off qualification for the sixth consecutive season, ultimately having that play-off journey ended by second-rated and undefeated Janesville in the opening round of postseason play to finish the season with a 6-4 record.

Waukon 2014 boys cross country team runs to first State Meet qualification in six seasons

The 2014 Waukon boys cross country season provided a great deal of “firsts” for fourth-year head coach Tara Stein, the greatest among those being the first time she has coached a team or individual runner to State Meet qualification. After a five-year complete absence from the season grand finale held at Fort Dodge each season, Coach Stein guided both her team - with its third-place State Qualifying Meet finish - and an individual runner - sophomore Tyler O’Neill and his seventh-place State Qualifying Meet finish - to every high school cross country team’s ultimate destination.
