Plans being made for Waukon High School Project Prom 2010

Waukon High School Prom 2010 is scheduled for Saturday, April 24. Parents of the high school students are again hosting the annual substance-free post prom event at the former Waukon Junior High School gymnasium immediately following Prom, from midnight until 4 a.m.

Kristi Hager to speak at March 18 Lenten Breakfast

The annual Lenten Breakfast events begin at 6:45 a.m. each Thursday during Lent and take place weekly at local churches according to the following remaining schedule:
March 18 - Zion United Church of Christ
March 25 - St. Paul United Methodist Church.
Scheduled to speak at the March 18 Lenten breakfast at Zion United Church of Christ is Kristi Hager, who will be sharing highlights from her recent trip to Israel.

All women are welcome to attend the Lenten Breakfast events, which include a served breakfast and a featured speaker each week.

Men's Ecumenical Lenten Supper will be March 28

A Men's Ecumenical Lenten Supper will be held Sunday, March 28 at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and a presentation will take place at 7 p.m. featuring Dr. Steven Perkins as speaker. A meal will follow.
All men in the community from all denominations are invited to attend the Men's Ecumenical Lenten Supper.

Dan Sivesind named Honorary Member of Dairy Science Club at Iowa State University

Dan Sivesind of Waukon was named an Honorary Member of the Dairy Science Club at Iowa State University (ISU) at the Club's annual banquet held in Ames Sunday, March 7. Sivesind is a 1982 graduate of Waukon High School and 1986 ISU graduate, and his former high school and college classmate, Waterville native Brad Fossum - a Dairy Program Coordinator for Select Sires in the Lodi, WI area, performed the initial introduction at the banquet.

Allamakee County Food Shelf requests RSVP volunteers

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is seeking volunteers to serve in the Allamakee County Food Shelf in Waukon. Alaine Meier, coordinator of the Food Shelf, reports a significant increase in the need for volunteers since the economic recession has begun. Several people who can lift and carry boxes weighing up to 50 pounds are needed Thursdays from 8:45 a.m.- 1 p.m.

Lions Club Variety Show to be held March 20

The Waukon Lions Club 21st Annual Variety Show is scheduled for Saturday, March 20 at the Waukon High School Auditorium. Doors for the event open at 6:15 p.m., with performances beginning at 7 p.m.

Tickets are available at Farmers & Merchants Savings Bank, Waukon State Bank, Fidelity Bank, Hartig Drug, Elliott Jewelers, and Krambeer's Barber Shop in Waukon, or from any Auditorium. Doors for the event open at 6:15 p.m., with performances beginning at 7 p.m.

Waukon Boy Scout Troop preparing for omelet breakfast

Waukon Boy Scout Troop 64 will be hosting its omelet breakfast at the St. Patrick Church basement in Waukon Sunday, March 21 from 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The menu will include made-to-order omelets, hash browns, freshly baked cinnamon rolls, juice, coffee, and milk. Tickets are on sale now with any Boy Scout at a discounted price compared to sales at the door. Carry-outs are available. The money raised from this fundraiser is used to purchase equipment for the Troop and help Scouts raise money for camp. Submitted photo.

RSVP Food Pantry Drive deemed a success

The Northeast Iowa Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) conducted its fourth annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day paper and personal care item drive in support of the area food pantries in Allamakee, Howard and Winneshiek counties. Beginning January 15 and continuing until February 1, 16 RSVP volunteers from the three-county area collected, sorted and distributed over 1,800 items and over $750 for the seven food pantries in the three-county area.
