LEO V. RYAN, C.S.V., CELEBRATES GOLDEN JUBILEE WITH HOMETOWN PARISH

In a special Mass of Thanksgiving held in his honor, Brother Leo V. Ryan, C.S.V., Sunday, May 14, celebrated with the congregation of St. Patrick's Catholic Church 50 years as a brother in the Clerics of St. Viator, one of several events in which Brother Ryan has and will participate in during this Golden Jubilee year.

INDIAN GIRLS GOLF SEASON COMES TO AN ABRUPT HALT WITH THIRD-PLACE DISTRICT TOURNAMENT FINISH

The 2000 season for the Waukon Indian girls golf team came to somewhat of a surprise ending Monday, May 15 with the Tribe's third-place finish at its Class 2A District Tournament at Luana's Tri-City Golf Course. The Indians needed at least a second-place finish in the team or individual standings to advance on to the regional level of play, but came up just a couple strokes shy of that feat, bringing this season to a close.

INDIAN GOLF BOYS WRAP UP DUAL MEET SEASON WITH BACK-TO-BACK WINS, END OF SEASON IN SIGHT WITH FOURTH-PLACE FINISH AT SECTIONALS

The end of the 2000 Waukon Indian boys golf season is in sight, unfortunately, for the Indian linksters, as the Tribe could not quite clear its first postseason tournament hurdle and will not extend its season beyond the Tuesday, May 16 Northeast Iowa Conference meet. The Indians finished fourth in the eight-team Class 3A Sectional Tournament at Waverly-Shell Rock Friday, May 12, coming up short of advancing to the district tourney.

RACHEL REISER BREAKS OWN 3000 METER SCHOOL RECORD TO HELP INDIAN TRACK GIRLS TO FIFTH-PLACE FINISH AT NEIC MEET

The 2000 team season has come to an end for the Waukon Indian girls track team, as the Tribe closed out its season with its district and conference meets this past week. The Northeast Iowa Conference meet, in which the Indians finished fifth as a team at Charles City Thursday, May 11, proved to be the final meet of the season for all but one of this year's team members, as senior Rachel Reiser was the lone Indian to earn a spot in this year's State Track Meet by winning the 3000 meter run at the Tribe's Class 2A District Meet Monday, May 8.

CODY KAMMEYER SETS NEW SCHOOL AND NEIC RECORD IN 1600 METERS, TRACK BOYS TAKE THIRD AT NEIC MEET

The Waukon Indian boys track team secured a third-place finish at the Northeast Iowa Conference meet held Thursday, May 11 at Charles City. The Indians scored one event victory and also compiled four second-place finishes and a pair each of third and fourth-place finishes at the meet to tally 72 team points and finish behind Class 3A powerhouse Waverly-Shell Rock and New Hampton.

Margaret Walsh

Margaret E. Walsh, 86, of Waukon, died May 10, 2000, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon following a lengthy illness. Funeral Services were held May 12 at St. Mary's Lycurgus Catholic Church, rural Waukon, with Rev. Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial was held in the church cemetery.
Margaret Estelle Walsh was born on Nov. 15, 1913, in Waukon. Her parents were Joseph and Mathilda (Waldron) Walsh. She attended rural elementary school and Waukon High School. Following school, she lived in LaCrosse, WI, and California for many years before returning to Waukon in 1959.

Edgar Haar

Edgar G. Haar, 88, of Eitzen, MN, died May 12, 2000, at the Lutheran Home in Caledonia, MN.
He was born July 3, 1911, in Winnebago Township, Houston County, MN, to Herman and Lena (Meyer) Haar. On Oct. 27, 1937, he married Matha Tubandt in Miller, SD. She preceeded him in death March 29, 1993. Edgar farmed in the Eitzen area until 1960. He was employed by Nelson Constructuion in Caledonia until his retirement.

Irma Koontz

Irma C. (Nicky) Koontz died of natural causes at Benefit East Hospital in Great Falls, MT, on Dec. 8, 1999.
Mrs. Koontz was born to Bernard and Gena Roese of Waterville on Jan. 21, 1915. She married John (Jack) Fieldman Koontz at St. Pious Catholic Church at Cherry Mound on Aug. 8, 1933. He passed away July 1, 1972, at their farm near Belt, MT. She was a graduate of Waterville High School in 1932 and attended Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls. Mrs. Koontz was a member of Tiger Butte Homemakers Club and was a past member of the Sons of Norway and the Eagles Auxiliary.

Maynard Leppert

Maynard W. Leppert, 86, of Waukon, died May 12 at Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon, following a sudden illness. Funeral services were held May 15 at First Baptist Church in Waukon under the direction of Rev. Richard Johnson and Pastor Chris Leppert. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Lansing.
