Entries sought for annual Lighted Holiday Parade to be held November 23

Plans are again being made for the fourth annual Lighted Holiday Parade scheduled to be held in Waukon Monday, November 23, beginning at 6 p.m. - held in conjunction with the later Monday night business hours of Waukon retailers and other holiday kick-off events.
The theme for this year's parade, "The Magic of Christmas", extends from the traditional Christmas Fantasy held each year in Waukon, and will be featured throughout the parade. All entries must be lighted and cannot involve a live version of Santa Claus.

Kevin Gordon attains Eagle Scout rank

Kevin Gordon of Boy Scout Troop 64 in Waukon will be honored at an Eagle Scout Court of Honor Sunday, November 15 at 2 p.m. at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon. Gordon appeared before the Eagle Board of Review Committee September 21 and was awarded the Eagle Scout Rank.
After being a Cub Scout and earning his Arrow of Light May 14, 2005, Gordon crossed over and joined Troop 64. He earned the ranks of Scout, Tenderfoot, 2nd Class Scout, 1st Class Scout, Star Scout, Life Scout, and completed his trail to Eagle Scout September 21.

Waukon Fire Department responds to gas spill

The Waukon Fire Department was notified Monday afternoon, November 10 of a gas spill at Casey’s General Store on Rossville Road in Waukon. Waukon Fire Chief Jim Ryan said that a tanker truck that was delivering fuel to the store overfilled the storage tank, spilling approximately 70 gallons of gasoline.

Wiedner unopposed in First Ward

1) Please provide some background information about yourself.

Steve Wiedner: I am a lifelong resident of the community. I've been married 42 years to Kathy, with two grown, married children, Katie and Molly, and two grandchildren, Brooklyn and Madilyn.
I have been employed in local automotive businesses, owned my own business, and taught for 15 years at the Community College, from which I retired.
Before serving on the Council, I volunteered on several committees and worked on the bond issue for the new school and wellness center.

"Living with Alcohol" panel discussion to take place November 2

Area residents will be sharing their personal stories in a panel discussion entitled “Living with Alcohol” Monday, November 2. These presenters include members of AA, Al-Anon, the clergy and local law enforcement.   Community Connections will facilitate this presentation which will be held at the Village Creek Bible Camp, rural Lansing.

Head-on collision claims life of Waukon woman

A head-on collision resulted in a fatality Monday, October 26 at around 10:13 a.m. about three-fourths of a mile south of Waukon on Highway 9 near Village Farm and Home. According to a report from the Allamakee County Sheriff's Office, a sport utility vehicle driven by 39-year-old Elaine Marie Bodley of Waukon was northbound on Highway 9 when it crossed the centerline, striking a car driven by 85-year-old Ruth Darlene Johnson of Waukon.
