Vlora brings a unique dining experience to Main Street in downtown Waukon

Vlora, a new restaurant located on Main Street in Waukon, opened for business November 4. The proprietor, known only as "Mario," has been a cook for 29 years and took the title of "chef" nine years ago. Most recently, Mario was the chef at the Oelwein Cafe in Oelwein. Originally from Michigan, Mario has two grown daughters.

Public urged to attend, provide input at C2C meeting November 13

Waukon Works announces the public input portion of the Iowa State University Communities to Community (C2C) project with the scheduling of a Wednesday, November 13 meeting. Results of the recent community survey will be shared, and public input will be needed. All interested community members are encouraged to attend. Waukon downtown forum attendees are asked to attend this meeting, which will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Waukon NICC Center Wednesday, November 13.

Sunday high speed chase results in arrest

The Waukon Police Department and Allamakee County Sheriff's Department were involved in a high-speed chase Sunday afternoon, October 27 that begin within the city limits and continued along several Allamakee County gravel roads and highways north and east of Waukon before resulting in an arrest. Waukon Police Chief Phil Young said that a department officer on duty was responding to a report of suspicious activity at the Allamakee County Fairgrounds at around 1 p.m. when he witnessed a vehicle driving through the fairgrounds parking lot.

Deadline for Allamakee County Flood and Storm Relief second round of funding is November 7

The Allamakee County Flood and Storm Relief Fund Committee has recently awarded $10,157.62 in reimbursement payments to homeowners and businesses who applied for funding to replace water heaters and/or furnaces destroyed in the storms of last June. Because of the generous donations that have been made to the Flood and Storm Relief Fund, more money is now available for a second round of funding assistance to aid homeowners and businesses.

Allamakee Community Players to present "Feudin', Fightin' and Fussin'"

The Allamakee Community Players will be presenting the LeRoma Greth comedy "Feudin', Fightin' and Fussin'" on the stage in the St. John’s Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall in Waukon. Performances are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, November 1 and 2 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, November 3 at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased from any cast member, at Rockweilers in Waukon, or by calling Kris Larson at 563-864-7766. Second Annual Holiday Merchant Madness Punch Card Promotion to begin November 1

The Waukon Chamber of Commerce is promoting its Second Annual Holiday Merchant Madness Punch Card Promotion. Everyone is invited to play and the rules are simple.
Customers are asked to fill a card with purchases from at least three different participating merchants, who will validate the card for the amount purchased in $5 increments. There is a limit of $90 that may be punched by one merchant for a purchase.

Official trick-or-treat times set for Halloween; Local care facilities offer safe, fun opportunities

The City of Waukon has set its official Trick-or-Treat time for Thursday, October 31 from 5-8 p.m. Area residents are asked to leave porch lights on to welcome trick-or-treaters,  and the youngsters are reminded to keep safety in mind while making their rounds from house to house.
